Disabled NFL Players may be entitled to one of the five types of NFL Disability under the NFL Disability Plan.

From April 1, 2008 to July 31, 2008, the NFL Disability Plan will accept disability applications during a special "window period" from players already receiving NFL Retirement - video with info

Getting NFL Disability

Step 1 – apply for NFL disability benefits:

Step 2 – if your application is denied, get help before appealing the denial:

  • If your application is denied, re-watch the video with Tips on Applying for Disability for information about ERISA and more importantly the Bookends
  • There is a limited time period for you to submit an appeal

Step 3 – if your application and appeal are denied, suing the NFL Plan is the last option:

  • Remember the Bookends – if you failed to overwhelmingly prove your claim during Step 1 & Step 2, winning in court is almost impossible
